Rose-Hulman expects its students, faculty, staff and visitors to be responsible adults and to behave at all times with honor and integrity.
Visitors from neighboring colleges and the general public are permitted to use the Logan Library during public library hours. However, priority for library services, resources and study space is given to members of the Rose-Hulman community.
Circulation Policy: Currently, only those with Rose-Hulman ID cards and members of schools with whom Rose-Hulman has reciprocal agreements (e.g. Indiana State University and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College) can check out library materials directly from the Logan Library. Library cards are not available to members of the general public. However, members of the general public may have their local public library submit an interlibrary loan request to borrow library materials from Rose-Hulman. Members of the general public may use books and several electronic resources within the library.
Food and Drink Policy: Beverages and snacks are permitted. Please be polite and clean up after yourself.
Smoking Policy: All Rose-Hulman buildings are smoke-free and vape-free (no e-cigarettes).
Unattended Items Policy: Personal items and other items left unattended in the Library for more than 15 minutes are subject to removal by library staff or Public Safety. The library is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal belongings. Unattended Child Policy: Public Safety will be notified if a child is left unattended in the library.
Elevator Policy: The library elevator may be used by Rose-Hulman faculty, staff, library student workers and vendors. Students or visitors who qualify under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, provisions of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, have temporary medical conditions or have obvious accessibility issues, may also use the library elevator. Individuals who do not fall into one of these categories are required to use the main entrance of the library and/or the stairs to access the various floors and offices of the John A. Logan Library. If you have questions or to discuss additional exceptions to this policy, please contact the Library Director, library staff member or email the library at library@rose-hulman.edu.
Copyright: The person using copyrighted works is responsible for his/her actions. The Logan Library's copyright guides provides RHIT faculty, staff, and students with a basic understanding of copyright law. The information listed in this guide does not constitute legal advice or a legal opinion. Please contact the Library Director with any questions.
Other: Suggestions for improving the library and its collections are always welcomed. Please drop a note to the library at library@rose-hulman.edu.
Books are checked out for 30 days to undergraduate students, 90 days to graduate students and 365 days for faculty and staff members. You will receive a courtesy notice via e-mail approximately two days before your book is to be returned followed by an overdue notice seven days past your due date. Following your due date, you will have a 30-day grace period without an overdue fine. After 30 days you will receive a lost book bill. The lost book bill covers the replacement cost of the book plus a processing fee of $15.00 per book. The cost of the book will be forgiven when you return the book, but you will be required to pay the processing fee if you let the book go past the grace period. Please avoid these charges by returning your library items on time or by taking advantage of our self-renewal feature by following these steps:
- Go to the library catalog.
- Click "log-in" at the top right of the screen.
- Enter the BARCODE on the back of your student or faculty ID and your pin number. If you do not have a PIN number, you will need to create one. To create a PIN just enter your barcode and leave the PIN field blank and click LOGIN. You will then be prompted to create a PIN number.
- Place a check mark by the books you would like to renew and click "renew."
- Note: You can only renew this way one time. After that, you will need to bring the item to the library.
- Items are subject to recall.
- Reference items are to be used in the library unless special permission is given by the librarian. Reserve materials are to be used in the library unless otherwise instructed by the professor.
