Spotlight on: Joshua Krsek, Rose-Hulman Alumnus and Cornell University Graduate Student

Joshua Krsek

Joshua Krsek graduated from Rose-Hulman in 2021 with a major in mechanical engineering (concentration in aerospace) and a minor in computational science. He is pursuing a doctoral degree in aerospace engineering, focusing on computational fluid dynamics and optimization from Cornell University. Krsek shares how Rose-Hulman helped him prepare for graduate school.

How did Rose-Hulman help prepare you for graduate school and your career path?

Rose-Hulman gave me exposure to many ideas and career paths. The school offered many advanced classes that helped me prepare for my study of fluid dynamics and computational methods. Specifically, Dr. Moorhead’s Foundations of Fluid Mechanics class prepared me well for my first semester of graduate school and the qualifying exam I took on fluid mechanics.

What are your career goals?

I am unsure of my specific career goals at this time; however, I think I would like to work at a national or Department of Defense lab at first. Currently, I am on a leave of absence from Cornell training to work as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

What was unique about attending Rose?

Students have the ability to work closely with professors, many of whom have open door policies where you can stop in anytime with questions.

What else do you have to say about your experience at Rose-Hulman?

I always felt like I had a shot at Rose. Meaning, if I put in the effort, the resources were available to help me be successful.
