Ideas Needed for Freshman Civil Engineering Design Projects
Freshman civil engineering students are already gearing up to work on design projects in the spring. Traditionally, these projects are sponsored by local citizens and community groups.
While they don’t yet have the engineering skills of upperclassmen, the freshman always show a lot of enthusiasm and creativity, and provide a genuine service to the community. Typical projects include parking lot layouts, solutions for drainage and traffic problems, simple waste treatment problems, floor plans for small buildings, and designs for athletic fields, playgrounds and park projects.
Civil engineering professor Kyle Kershaw is expecting to have 12 different projects this spring. Each project is completed by the students within nine weeks. The spring quarter begins March 5.
