Rose-Hulman operates on a quarter-based calendar system, beginning with the Fall term and followed by Winter and Spring terms. Each term consists of 11 weeks of instruction time (10 weeks of courses and 1 week for final exams). The final term of the calendar is an optional Summer term during which a limited number of courses are offered. The Summer term includes two concurrent formats: one 10-week session and two separate 5-week summer sessions.
