Olivia Davis

Meet Olivia

A computer science major from Columbus, Ohio who loves to solve problems -- without using Google.

What do you most expect to gain from being part of our scholars program?

I hope to be able to connect with other like-minded students and also have the ability (and support) to go further in-depth into my area of study.

How do you spend your free time?

When I can, I hang out with friends or family. Whether that be some random trips to Ikea in the day or a competitive game of Jackbox at night. Alone, though, I spend most of my time listening to music from all sorts of genres while riding around in my car, working on a problem, or playing a game.

What is the nerdiest thing you do?

Sometimes I'll start thinking of past problems I've worked on and try and solve them differently or find out how certain formulas were made (without Google, that's cheating.) So I'll sit back, get a pencil and paper, and start writing away.

How do you hope to change the world with the knowledge you’ll gain at Rose-Hulman?

As of now, I hope to be able to utilize Computer Science to further expand and improve other areas of study in medicine and/or the environment.

How did you know Rose was right for you?

I knew Rose was right for me with my first visit. I didn't want to go to a big school where you're seen more as a number than a student. (Lecture halls of 300+ students would never be my thing.) But with my first visit to Rose, I fell in love with the close-knit community here and the focus on the students individually. What also caught my interest was how much Rose emphasized their care for and importance of teaching which was clearly evident in the faculty chosen to teach
