Josh Wilmerding

Meet Josh

A mechanical engineering major from California aiming for a career in racing.

What do you most expect to gain from being part of our scholars program?

I hope to be able to interact and spend time with similarly motivated students, build relationships, and find new opportunities.

How do you spend your free time?

Anything related to racing. Watching, doing it for fun, simulating it, doing math related to it, even just thinking about it. I also love piano, chess, and basketball.

What is the nerdiest thing you do?

One time I stayed up until 4 a.m. making and cleaning up a silly (but massive with over 200+ entries) bar graph chart I made just for fun.

How do you hope to change the world with the knowledge you’ll gain at Rose-Hulman?

I want to be a race engineer one day, but there are so many facets to being involved in motorsports. I've always been interested in motorsports safety and being part of an upcoming technological advancement in that subject, such as the implementation of a new type of barrier or mechanism on the race car, would be amazing.

How did you know Rose was right for you?

I attended Operation Catapult last summer and the feel of the school was unlike any other I'd visited. I loved the atmosphere and the feeling that I was welcome here. I genuinely believe the students I spoke to love going to Rose.
