As engineering professionals progress through their careers, they are often presented opportunities to function as an application or sales engineer. In this role, engineers are expected to use their technical expertise to communicate a solution-based approach that solves a customer’s problem by utilizing their products and services. Showcasing new products and providing technical advice is only half of the success equation. To be successful in this role, engineers must understand how to uncover the true impact of the client’s problem and the best approach to effectively close the opportunity.
