Course Descriptions

The mechanical engineering curriculum is designed to prepare students for productive careers in industry, government, education and private consulting as well as for graduate study. Material and spatial descriptions of fluid motion. The Reynolds transport equation. The stress tensor and governing equations for the motion of viscous fluids. Newtonian fluids, the Navier-Stokes equations. Asymptotic solutions including fully developed channel flow, oscillating flat plate, wakes and jets. Introduction to boundary layers and turbulent flow including Reynolds averaging.
