  1. Refer to the ECE Homework Format for a general description of the proper format of your formal report. Work that deviates significantly from the format may need to be resubmitted (and be subject to late penalties).

  2. The fundamental purposes of the report are: (a) to describe the specific design and principles of operation of your ADC system, (b) to present and discuss your ADC performance data, and (c) to provide thorough documentation of your design.

  3. Your report must include the following items in the order indicated:
bulletTitle Page: Include all relevant information (project title, your names, campus mail, date, course number, etc.)
bulletExecutive Summary (or Abstract): Write a one-paragraph overview of the report on its own page. Clearly state your main results. You should be able to “tear off” the executive summary, hand it to someone to read, and they should be able to understand the purpose and key results of your project without ever reading the report itself.
bulletTable of Contents
bulletNarrative: Organize sections of material in a way that will help to guide the reader through your discussion. Use section headings.
bulletResults and Conclusions (the last section of your narrative): State your key results and discuss them. For example, How well did your design work? Did the hardware behavior match simulated results? How well did your circuit perform the analog-to-digital conversion task? Would you propose any changes to your design?
bulletAttachments: The following items should be clearly labeled as "Attachment 1", "Attachment 2", etc., and must be specifically mentioned in the narrative:
bulletSymbol drawing for entire system
bulletBlock diagram for entire system
bulletSymbol drawing for digital system
bulletState transition diagram for controller
bulletRegister-level block diagram for datapath
bulletTest plan
bulletSynthesizable circuit description (Verilog)
bulletTestbench (Verilog)
bulletUCF file
bulletFunctional verification waveform plots with annotations to interpret the results
bulletMSO waveforms demonstrating proper operation of your circuit

  1. Hand drawn diagrams are permissible, provided that they are neatly drawn.

  2. The diagrams must reflect the finished design.

  3. Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and style are important.
