My Expectations

bullet

I expect that you will put forth your best efforts to learn and master the course material. Examples of this effort include:
bullet

Actively pay attention in class, and take notes

bullet

Read the textbook on a regular basis

bullet

Ask questions when you don't understand (in class, during office hours, or by appointment)

bullet

Practice the material learned in class by working through the examples in the textbook, and by doing the homework yourself

bullet

Schedule homework activities so as to allow enough time to seek help from the instructor in advance of the due date

bullet

I expect professionalism in your conduct, both in the classroom and in the lab. Examples of professional behavior include:
bullet

Attend class, show interest, and participate

bullet

Avoid engaging in any activity that is distracting to others

bullet

Use polite language

bullet

Use laptop computer only during specifically designated in-class activity

bullet

I expect professionalism in your written work; strive for neat and orderly presentation of your work

RHIT Honor Code As Applied to ECE333

bulletWork that you submit for individual grading is entirely your own effort
bulletWork that you submit for group grading is the result of equally shared effort
bulletPlagiarized work will result in a minimum penalty of zero credit for the work in question, and may result in a maximum penalty of a failing course grade

Grade Components

Exams (3) 60 %
Prelabs 10 %
Lab notebook 10 %
Design project 10 %
Homework 10 %

bulletLetter grades are determined from course score according to a straight percentage (A:90%, B+:85%, B:80%, C+:75%, C:70%, D+:65%, D:60%)
bulletThe cumulative exam score must be at a passing level (i.e., ≥ 60%) in order to pass the course
bulletAll lab work (prelabs, lab notebooks, design project report) must be submitted in order to pass the course

Exams

bullet

No aids of any sort may be used. Bring only a pen and a calculator.

bullet

The third exam scheduled during finals week is simply Exam 3, i.e., it is the same format as Exams 1 and 2, and it is not comprehensive.

bulletPlease make every effort to be present during the scheduled exam time. Talk with me before an exam if you have a conflict so that suitable arrangements can be made. Unexcused absence from an exam will result in zero credit.

Homework

bulletHomework is an individual effort (individual grade)
bulletUse the ECE Homework Format. Work that deviates significantly from the required format may be returned ungraded.
bulletAssignments will be due at the beginning of class.
bulletAssignments received after solutions have been posted will be returned ungraded.

Labs

bullet

Lab is a group effort (group grade).

bullet

Each partner must obtain a lab notebook.

bullet

The lab notebook is to be a running record of your work in lab, including the assigned "prelab" activities.

bullet

Do the prelab work in your lab notebook. Submit a photocopy of your prelab lab notebook pages at the beginning of the class day before lab.

bullet

Rotate duties for maintaining the lab notebook each lab period.

bullet

Lab notebooks for a given lab will be collected at the beginning of the following lab period.

bullet

Missed lab work must be made up. A late penalty of a 10% grade reduction per day will apply unless previous arrangements for absence have been made.

bullet

The instructor may occasionally reorganize the lab groups.
