About Robert A. Coons

Robert A. CoonsRobert A. Coons has been a valuable member of the leadership team over the course of his nearly 30 years of service to the institute. Prior to being named president, he served as senior vice president and chief administrative officer from 2013-2018. He also served as interim president (2012-2013) as well as vice president and chief administrative officer (2005-2012). He received the Rose-Hulman President's Outstanding Service Award in 2010, and was named an honorary Rose-Hulman alumnus by the Alumni Association in 2013.

Coons has played a key role in organizing the framework for the formulation of the goals and strategies in the institute’s Strategic Plan 2013-2018. Many of these strategies are now being implemented through his guidance. He is currently serving as a member of the Union Health System (UHS/Union Hospital Board, the UHS Medical Group Committee and the UHS Audit Committee. Coons has held various committee appointments on the Central Association of College and University Business Officers, is a past president of the Indiana Association of College and University Business Officers, is a past treasurer and finance committee chair of the United Way of the Wabash Valley, a past president of Vigo County Lifeline, and a graduate of Leadership Terre Haute.

He earned a master of business administration from Indiana State University and a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University. He was recognized with a Distinguished Alumni Award from IU East in 2013. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education Institute for Education Management, and is a certified public accountant in North Carolina and Indiana.
