News:

• 11-Nov-2023:
  • The Final Exam is Monday at 8:00 am! Here is some info on it:
    • It will cover all the learning objectives from the entire course.
    • The ground rules are the same. Here is what you get to use:
      • Three handwritten (one side only) equation pages with no worked out examples on them. You can include diagrams, notes, inspirational quotes, and quips about Dr. Thom's questionable parentage.
      • A calculator and/or your laptop as a calculation device. That is, you can useMaple, MATLAB, etc. on your laptop but you cannot have nay prepared codes.
      • EES or property tables and other appendices from your text. Nothing else from your text is allowed.
  • You can now play the The Thermowood Squares to study.


• 03-Nov-2023: Note that the Schedule has changed, and the due dates for today's and next Tuesday's homework assignments have changed.


• 29-Oct-2023: Exam 2 is graded! Find out how you did in the Gradebook.


• 27-Oct-2023: Solutions to Exam II available in the Other files tab of the Downloads section.


• 19-Oct-2023: Lessons has been updated with a new in-class example added to the 19 October class. This is new and not in the course workbook.


• 17-Oct-2023:

• 04-Oct-2023:
  • Exam 1 is graded! Find out how you did in the Gradebook.

• 21-Sep-2023: The Schedule has changed just a wee bit, with a shift in HW assignments. Flow Exergy HW 2 is now assigned today, 21-Sept and not 19-Sept. Also, an extra problem has been assigned for today, which can be found in the Downloads section.


• 19-Sep-2023:

  Exam 1 is a week from Friday! Get started studying now.

• 12-Sep-2023:
  • As stated in the Syllabus, this test will count for 10% of your total course grade.
  • The test will be opened at 17:00 on September 15, 2023 and closed at 8:00 on September 18, 2023.
  • You will have 2 hours to work on the entire test (two sections) once the test begins. Time limits for the individual question are:
  • 30 minutes for Section 1, Phase Determination
  • 1 ½hour for Section 2, Property Determination (with numbers)
  • You are may print out Tables A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4, A-5, and A-22 from your Vitalsource text prior to the test. The test is closed-book, closed-notes, OPEN-TABLE ONLY (Moran et al. 9th Edition).
  • Calculators, Excel, and Maple are allowed.
  • You may use one side of an 8.5" x 11" equation sheet (ideal gas model, compressed liquid approximation, etc.)
  • You will be scored on your first attempt. The passing grades are
  • 90% for determining the phase
  • 70% for determining the properties numerically
  • You must work on the test individually. No discussion with any other person, no reference to material which is not your own are allowed.
  • You are not allowed to discuss this test with anyone until 8:00 on September 18, 2023.
  • Any violation to the stated policies would result in failing the course for all parties involved.
  • The bottom line: The instructors believe students will uphold the honor code during the entire test. Your integrity is worth much more than 10% of your overall course grade.

  • The menu button is in the upper left hand corner of the page.
  • This Home page contains news, announcements, and infornation on web updates.
  • The Syllabus contains all information on course policy and requirements.
  • The Schedule gives a bird's eye view of topics, reading and homework assignments, and due dates.
  • The Lessons section is where you will spend most of your time. It gives a detailed breakdown of each day's assignment. You will find the notes, examples, and their solutions in video and PDF format here.
  • The Downloads contains extra downloadable files, inlcuding homework problems not found in the book, study aids, and old exams.
  • HW hints gives hints and answers to some (but not all!) of the assigned homework problems.
  • The Gradebook section allows you to see the grades I have recorded for you for each graded activity. Usernames are passwords will be supplied to you in order to access the Gradebook.
