Fall Opportunities: Hundreds of students from all class levels visited the Fall Career Fair, attended by nearly 250 companies from throughout the country.

Whether it was the freshly pressed suits and dresses or the brightly colored banners and attractive giveaways at the booths, students and companies dressed to impress at Rose-Hulman's Fall Career Fair.

For students at every level, freshman to senior, there were opportunities galore to fill job and internship openings in a variety of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) career fields.

The fieldhouse of the Sports and Recreation Center was abuzz with students and representatives of nearly 250 companies from throughout the country, including heavy hitters Microsoft, Google, General Electric, Rockwell Collins, and Texas Instruments.

Midwest companies attending included Eli Lilly & Company, Rolls-Royce, ArcelorMittal, Cummins, Delphi, Allison Transmission, Interactive Intelligence, and Roche Diagnostics.

Then there were the nearly 35 companies that were on campus for the first time to recruit students.

Career opportunities are once again robust for STEM college graduates, according to Kevin Hewerdine, Rose-Hulman's director of career services and employer relations. In fact, he reports that several companies didn't wait until the Fall Career Fair to begin recruiting to fill their employment needs from the Class of 2017. Job offers were extended following summer internships and extended co-op experiences, and companies began hosting campus information events during the first week of fall quarter classes.

"It's been another exciting fall recruitment season on campus," says Hewerdine. "Several students being interviewed at the Fall Career Fair were interviewed the next day and had job offers soon thereafter. Things are moving at a fast pace for many of our graduating seniors."

The Office of Career Services, ranked fifth in the nation in 2016 by BestColleges.com, also hosts career fairs during the winter and spring academic quarters to help students find opportunities for full time job, internship, and co-op openings.

A separate Graduate School Fair this fall helped students interested in master's and doctoral programs connect with representatives of nearly 50 graduate programs from across the U.S., including medical school, law school, and business school programs.

Rose-Hulman has a track record of post-graduate placement for its students, with nearly 90 percent securing jobs, graduate school appointments, or military commissions by commencement, and 98 percent placement shortly after.

Those Rose-Hulman graduates earn an average of $67,500 annually throughout their first 10 years of employment, placing Rose-Hulman 10^th in PayScale's national 2017 Salary Survey, data collected from millions of college graduates. Among colleges offering the bachelor's degree as its highest degree, Rose-Hulman was the highest-ranked Indiana institution for early-career earnings. For mid-career pay, Rose-Hulman alumni averaged $108,000, according to the PayScale survey.
