Dr. Nicole Robinson

Dr. Nicole Robinson will share her insights as an innovative educator dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion as the keynote speaker for Rose-Hulman’s 2021 virtual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Event.

Many diversity training programs deal strictly with human resource issues. Dr. Nicole Robinson likes to go deeper than that.

Dr. Robinson, a long-time educator and the founder and CEO of Cultural Connections by Design, LLC, a diversity consultancy, will share her insights on diversity education as the keynote speaker for Rose-Hulman’s virtual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Event at noon on Monday, January 18.

After hosting several educational workshops last year, Dr. Robinson returns to Rose-Hulman as both a keynote speaker and a facilitator of diversity workshops for faculty, students, and staff on Tuesday, January 19, and Wednesday, January 20.

Her keynote address, “Legacy: Social Change and Social Transformation,” will be available online to the public and the Rose-Hulman community with advance registration. Her virtual workshops, covering “Race, Power, and Responsibility in and Out of the Classroom” and microaggressions, are limited to Rose-Hulman students, faculty, and staff.

“The cause of racial justice is always paramount, but the events of the past year have made Dr. Robinson’s insights and teaching especially timely,” says Robert A. Coons, president of Rose-Hulman. “The stark experiences of the past year will remain with us for the rest of our lives. So, it is more important than ever that we take the engrained images we each experienced and use those to implement opportunities for change, allyship, and unity on our campus and in our society. My thanks to Rose-Hulman’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion for making this event possible.”

During her 20-year career in higher education, including serving as associate vice president for equity and inclusion at the University of Utah, Dr. Robinson created educational games designed to enlighten and empower individuals to become agents of positive change in their workplaces and communities. Those games inspired her to launch Cultural Connections by Design, which serves clients in higher education, business, government, and non-profit institutions.
