Lost Creek Restoration Project:

This Eastern Spiny Softshell turtle (Apalone spinifera spinefera) was found traversing a trail along the wetland.

The spiny softshell's body is not protected by a hard shell but instead by a tough, rubbery covering. The spiny softshell is a far better swimmer than most other turtle species. Macroinvertebrates such as aquatic insects, crayfish, and an occasional fish are the main stables of its diet.
