Terre Haute Community Leader Greg Gibson to Receive Honorary Degree
Honorary Doctorate: Alumnus Greg Gibson (Civil Engineering, 1984) will receive an honorary doctorate in engineering at this year's commencement.
Gregory L. Gibson, a Terre Haute and Indiana business and community leader, will receive an honorary doctorate of engineering degree from his alma mater during Rose-Hulman’s 139th commencement on May 27.
Gibson is president of ReTec Corporation, an environmental management consulting and engineering company based in Terre Haute, his hometown. He has extensive experience in the development and operation of waste management, and has owned and operated landfill, hauling and transfer station operations in Indiana, Illinois, Wyoming, Idaho, Arizona and Texas.
Through gubernatorial appointments, Gibson has assisted in economic development projects throughout Indiana as a member of the Indiana Port Commission and reviewed nominees for the Indiana Supreme Court and Indiana Court of Appeals as a member of the Indiana Judicial Commission.
Gibson serves his hometown as board chairman for the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hospice of the Wabash Valley and Visiting Nurse Association. He also is a member of the Methodist Health Foundation and Bird-Gibson Sports Center. And, he has impacted the community as a director for First Financial Bank and its holding company, First Financial Corporation; as secretary of the Rose-Hulman Board of Trustees and as a trustee for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Gibson earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rose-Hulman in 1984. He supports the institute by serving on several Board of Trustees committees and leading academic and athletic fundraising activities. Gibson was inducted into Rose-Hulman’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000 for his performances as a four-year varsity student-athlete in cross country and track, which also earned him Most Valuable Runner distinction in cross country in 1983.
