After completing today's reading, exercises, and the associated homework you should be able to:

• Write and explain each term in the work energy principle (both rate and finite time forms).
• Write and explain each term in the mechanical energy balance (both rate and finite time forms).
• Give the assusmptions required such that the work energy principle and the mechanical energy balance are the same.
• Use the work energy principle when it is applicable in order to find unknown velocites, elevations, work, etc.
