My Expectations
|
I expect that you will put forth your best efforts to
learn and master the course material. Examples of this effort include:
|
Actively pay attention in class, and take notes |
|
Read the textbook on a regular basis |
|
Ask questions when you don't understand (in class, during
office hours, or by appointment) |
|
Practice the material learned in class by working through
the examples in the textbook, and by doing the homework yourself |
|
Schedule homework activities so as to allow enough time
to seek help from the instructor in advance of the due date
|
|
|
I expect professionalism in your conduct, both in the
classroom and in the lab. Examples of professional behavior include:
|
Attend class, show interest, and participate |
|
Avoid engaging in any activity that is distracting to
others |
|
Use polite language |
|
Use laptop computer only during specifically designated
in-class activity
|
|
|
I expect professionalism in your written work; strive
for neat and orderly presentation of your work

| Letter grades are determined from course score according to a straight

| The final exam score must be at a passing level (i.e.,
≥ 60%) in order to pass the course |
| All lab work (prelabs, lab notebooks, lab report) must be
submitted in order to pass the course |
Exams
|
Exams are closed book, closed notes, closed laptop. |
|
Exams must be worked in pen (pencil not permitted). |
|
Calculators are permitted, but may not be used for any
form of information retrieval. |
|
Final exam is comprehensive. |
| Make every effort to be present during the scheduled exam time.
Talk with me before an exam if you have a conflict so that suitable
arrangements can be made. Unexcused absence from an exam will result in zero
credit. |
Homework
| Homework problems give you necessary practice with the course material,
and it is expected that you possess sufficient self-motivation to work all
homework problems assigned. |
| Homework problems will be posted periodically on the
Homework page |
| Homework problem sets represent an individual effort (individual grade).
You are encouraged to seek help from the instructor, your classmates, the
Learning Center, etc. However, when you actually perform the process of
working the problem, you must work individually. |
| Problem sets that are late or that do not conform to the FCSEC
Guidelines and Standards for Writing Assignments will be returned ungraded. |
Labs
|
Lab is a group effort (group grade) |
|
Each partner must obtain a lab notebook (10"x7-7/8", 80
sheets, 5x5 quadruled, #26-251 available at the Bookstore) |
|
Do the prelab work in your lab notebook. Submit a
photocopy of your prelab lab book pages at the beginning of class the day
before lab. |
|
For each lab, one partner in the lab group will maintain
the lab book work while the other partner performs the experimental work.
These duties must rotate for each lab. Clearly identify who maintained
the lab book on each lab. |
|
Lab notebooks must conform to the format described in the
FCSEC Guidelines and Standards for Writing Assignments. |
|
Lab notebooks will be collected at the end of the lab period. |
