Rose-Hulman has been named one of America’s top technical institutes, offering “a rare combination of technical education and personal attention,” according to the 2016 Fiske Guide to Colleges, a publication providing a selective and systematic look at some 300 colleges and universities across the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Former The New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske and guide staff members examined data from more than 2,200 four-year colleges to compile the 17 top technical institutes. Joining Rose-Hulman on the list were Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology, and Georgia Institute of Technology.

Rose-Hulman also is among more than 300 colleges with profiles featured in the guide, examining what makes the institute unique in its own way. These subjects include student body, academics, social life, campus setting, housing, food, and extracurricular activities. Student comments about aspects of these areas are featured throughout the two-page profile article.

Rose-Hulman’s profile states that the institute “offers an outstanding technical background and bright prospects for future employment. Students are smart, motivated, and highly competitive, and love using their computers for work and play.”

The guide highlights experiences that students can gain in product development as interns at Rose-Hulman Ventures, incorporating sustainability into engineering principles through the Home for Environmentally Responsible Engineering (HERE) program, and being introduced to entrepreneurship in the ESCALATE living-learning community.

The profile concludes with the following statement: “Students committed to careers in engineering or the sciences will find a top-flight education at this Midwestern technical school.”

The Fiske Guide to Colleges is the latest national publication to highlight Rose-Hulman among America’s leading colleges and universities. See other testimonials and Points of Pride.
