Distinguished Paper Award
The 2015 Distinguished Paper Award will be presented to a student presenting a paper which,
in the minds of the award selection committee, is an exceptional example of undergraduate work
in a mathematical discipline. The recipient of the award will receive a $100 cash prize in
addition to a certificate. Students not wishing to be considered for the award do not need
to adhere to the requirements outlined on this page.
Eligibility:
To be eligible, a student must be a degree candidate at an accredited institution in any term
during the 2014-2015 academic year. The student must be able to present the research during the
conference taking place April 24-25, 2015. The student must be the first (senior) author on the
manuscript, although the manuscript can be coauthored with a faculty advisor or a small number
of collaborators. The paper must not be published or accepted for publication at the time of
submission. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible.
All required materials for the Distinguished Paper Award, including registration for the
conference, must be submitted by 5:00pm (EDT) on March 16, 2015. Only completed submissions
that meet the eligibility requirements, follow the described guidelines (see below), and are
received by the above deadline will be considred. Manuscripts are reviewed without author
or institutional identification.
Guidelines for Manuscript Submission:
In order to be considered for the Dinstinguished Paper Award, all submissions should
adhere to the following guidelines:
- No more than 15 pages in length, with one-inch margins, a 12-point font size, and no
more than 25 lines per page, double spaced.
- Include a title page that gives the title and a brief abstract one paragraph in length.
Authors' names and affiliations should not be included on the title page.
- No identifying information should be included anywhere in the paper submitted.
- Tables, figures, and references are included in the 15-page limit. The title page is
not included in the 15-page limit.
- Manuscript must be a pdf or Microsoft Word file.
Review Criteria:
Three finalists will be chosen from a committee of reviewers, blinded to authorship and institutional
affiliation. Selection criteria will emphasize the strength of the manuscript in four areas:
- Motivation by a relevant problem.
- Methodological development relevant to the motivating problem.
- Clarity and style of presentation.
- Originality.
Finalists will be notified prior to the conference. Finalists will present their paper at the
conference alongside other presenters. Following the presentations, the committee will choose
the Distinguished Paper Award recipient. The award will be presented at the closing session of
the conference on Saturday, April 25.
Submission Procedure:
All submissions must be received no later than 5:00pm (EDT) Monday, March 16, 2015. You
are required to complete the following steps:
- Register for the conference via the link on the left-hand side of the page.
- During registration, submit your abstract.
- Email the following documents to Dr. Eric Reyes at

- Full manuscript, following the guidelines outlined above, with no author or
institutional affiliation identified.
- A title page, identical to that included in the full manuscript, with the exception
that authors' names and affiliations are included.
- Your email should have the subject line RHIT UGMC Distinguished Paper Award
Submission.
- You will receive a confirmation of receipt via email within 48-hours. If you do not receive
this confirmation, follow-up via email or phone with the conference organizers.
