Applying to Rose-Hulman

There are two types of admission for International students:

  • Freshman admission is for those students who are finishing secondary school and are ready to begin university-level studies.
  • Transfer admission is for those students who have graduated from secondary school and are enrolled in a college or university.

A completed application for admission includes:

  • The International Student Application
  • A letter of recommendation
  • An official copy of the secondary school record
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or Duolingo scores
  • Bank statement with all funding available for studies

If English is not your native language:

  • TOEFL Minimums - 88 Internet Based with a minimum of 20 in each area.
  • IELTS Minimums - 6.5 or above with a minimum of 6.0 in each area.
  • Duolingo Minimums - score of 110 or above.
  • PTEA Minimums – score of 59 or above

Exemption from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement is provided to students who score highly enough on the SAT or ACT standardized test. This exemption will be provided to students who have achieved one of the following score(s):

  • 500 or higher on the SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing section
  • 21 or higher on the ACT English section

All other international applicants for whom English is a second language are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.

International students may apply Early Action (EA) or Regular Decision (RD). The EA deadline to complete the application and submit all required application materials is November 1, with notification on or before December 15.  Early Action is non-binding. You are not required to make your enrollment deposit until May 1, but you are notified of your application decision earlier in the process. If you apply Early Action and you do not have all application materials in by the deadline, we will automatically roll you to Regular Decision. Regular Decision applicants must submit an application and all required materials by February 1.*

An affidavit of support indicating your ability to fund the cost of attendance through readily available funds at Rose-Hulman (You will be able to find and upload this in your portal after you have been admitted and received your financial aid.) The funding available must be accessible and cannot come from jobs or internships after entering the country. Priority I-20 processing will be available for those students who have submitted this as quickly as possible after being admitted.
