I moved into a house with a rather large living room. To aid in the lighting, I built a mission style torchiere lamp from red oak. It has a stained glass top which I bought at a local store. The base is made entirely from oak, which is sufficiently heavy to steady the lamp. When I built it, I was apprehensive about whether three layers of wood would be heavy enought to support a 5.5' floor lamp. Luckily, it did. Unfortunatelly, my jig-saw was in the repair shop while I built the rounded supports. Hence, I cut the outlines as close as possible with a circular saw but did most of the work with a wood rhasp. The lamp in the center is made from walnut. I gave it to a friend for a wedding present.
The lamp on the right is made from maple. I call it the "Chrysler," since it is loosely modeled after the top of the Chrysler building. I call the lamps in the other style "Empire State" because they look like the spire of the Empire State Building. This lamp I made for my honey.
I will soon post a picture of a floor lamp I made for my sister Ingrid. It is made from maple too and has some delicate inlay.
