This oval box is inspired by birch oval boxes typically found in Scandinavian countries. The box is made from Walnut, using thorns to peg the bottom. At first, I was going to make a banded top, but it just did not look right, hence I made the lid, which is much much closer to the Scandinavian boxes anyway.I first learned of birch boxes on a recent visit to the Skansen museum in Stockholm. I noticed this box which belongs to one of the interpreters working at the museum. We had a very pleasant chat about crafts and she let me take a picture of the box.
