Political Science at Rose-Hulman:
Politics
focuses on the enduring questions of how to
organize our institutions and societies so as to
achieve the goals of justice, security, and
material well-being. From high-stakes diplomacy
between great powers to struggles over school
funding, political interactions abound at all
levels. Political science is, in the broadest
sense, the study of governments and governing
procedures. As such the discipline covers a wide
range of topics, with the major subfields being
American government, international relations,
comparative politics, and political philosophy.
Courses dealing with all of these areas are
offered here at Rose-Hulman.
The study of political
science is useful not only for helping to better
understand the world in which you live, but also
by developing critical thinking skills through
analyzing complex social interactions. Political
science classes count toward the general
Humanities and Social Sciences requirements.
Those interested in more extensive study can
receive an area minor in political science.
Consult the
RHIT Undergraduate
Bulletin or see
below for the requirements.
Political science offerings are listed in the
schedule of classes under the HSS Department's
thematic categories (Global Studies [GS], Ideas
and Arts [IA] and Society and Values [SV]).
