Herb Bailey
Mathematics for Fun and Money.
In this talk I will describe some of the problems that I found interesting during my 15 years as a mathematician in industry and 30 years in academics. The `industry' problems include oil recovery by underground combustion and the mixing of a radioactive dye in the numan circulatory system. The `academic' problems include a proof of a stronger version of the triangle inequality and the discovery of some remote hypothetical satellites of Jupiter.
