How to choose your article to present

• The article must be a technical article on cryptography.
• Sources include:
• Cryptologia (in Rose-Hulman library). These articles are probably the easiest to understand.
• Recent issues of CRYPTO, ASIACRYPT, and EUROCRYPT proceedings. These articles will be somewhat more difficult.

Click on "View All Volumes" (this page may take a long time to load), then Search for "Advances in Cryptology". Follow the links for tables of contents and abstracts. There are also other proceedings of cryptography conferences available through these links.

• Journal of Cryptology. These articles may be very difficult.
• Web pages of prominent researchers. Articles found this way vary considerably in difficulty and readability.
• Allow 7-10 days to obtain articles through interlibrary loan which are not available electronically.
  
  
• Keep in mind that you will probably need to obtain background articles that your article references.

How to deliver your talk

• Your talk should last a total of 20 to 25 minutes, of which 3 to 5 minutes are allocated for questions. You should not exceed 25 minutes (I may cut you off).
   
• You should be an expert on the topic of your article.
  
  
  • Don't be afraid to be technical, where appropriate.
    
    
  • Your audience is your fellow students --- you should be familiar with their background.
    
    
  • Refresh their memory but don't insult their intelligence.
    
    
  • Suggest future work that might be done on the topic, where possible.
    
   
• Your talk should be polished.
  
  
• Use appropriate visual aids, including slides (either digital or transparency).
  
  
• Consider distributing a short handout.
  
  
• Practice!
  
  
• Here are some things not to do (in a PowerPoint file).
   
• Arrive early for your talk.  Be ready to go when the bell rings.  (Even if you are the second speaker, you need to be ready!)
  
  
• There will be an overhead projector present.
  
  
• If you want to do an electronic presentation (e.g., PowerPoint), come early enough to test your laptop on the projector, or put your PowerPoint file on MY laptop earlier in the day.
   
• Wear whatever will help you make the best presentation you can.  Informal is OK with me.
