How to succeed in CSSE 120

• Before each class meeting: do the Preparation (watch the videos, do any reading assigned, complete the quiz).
• As you are doing the before-class activities, write down questions so you can ask when you get to class.
• Attend every class meeting, unless you are ill. (See Attendance / Late work.)
• During class:
  • Work actively on the exercises.
  • Talk to other students and your instructor.
  • Ask questions about anything that you are not understanding fully, as well as anything about which you are curious.
• Continue working on each in-class exercise until you are confident about it; just "getting it to work" is not enough.
• Learn from the exercises; don't just "do" them.
• Immerse yourself in the capstone project. Be a world-class teammate.
• Prepare for each exam. When we give you practice problems, do them!
• Be honest. (See Academic Integrity.)
• Work efficiently — get help quickly when you get stuck or are confused.

Sources of help include:

• During class: Your instructor, student assistants, and other students.
• Before and after class:
  • Piazza for CSSE 120: piazza.com/rose-hulman/winter2019/csse120
    • This is the first place to ask and answer questions about any aspect of the class.
    • We encourage you to answer other students' questions on Piazza!
    • We will often post in-class questions and their answers on Piazza, so that all students can benefit from your questions.
    • We will give you instructions for signing up on Piazza soon after classes begin.
  • Every Sunday through Thursday evening, there are CSSE evening lab assistants in the CSSE labs (Moench F-217 and F-225). We will post their schedule soon.
  • The Learning Center (including the Percopo Study Center) has assistants trained for CSSE 120.
• For questions that are private, email your instructor. Please use Piazza for all out-of-class questions that don't require privacy.
• The navigation bar on most pages of this site has links to excellent internet resources on Python, Graphics and Robotics.

Finally, recall that the only human resources that you may use in doing the CSSE 120 exercises outside of class are those who are trained to help your learning in this course. These are:

• Your instructors and other CSSE faculty.
• The CSSE 120 course assistants.
• The CSSE evening lab assistants. They are in the CSSE labs (Moench F-217 and F-225) on most Sunday through Thursday evenings.
• Tutors from the Learning Center (including Percopo tutors).

You may NOT get help from anyone else in doing the exercises. No other CSSE majors, no RAs or SAs, no parents, no aliens from Mars, etc. If you feel that an exception to this would enhance your learning, talk to your instructor about that BEFORE you get any such help.
