CSSE 313: AI Presentation
In order to get a sense of the breadth of AI, as well as of current
research in this field, select and present a research article, a
research project, or an interesting AI application.
Topics
Use Google as well as the listing below to identify a current AI
project. Identify resources such as papers, demos or other multi-media
sources that you can use to build your presentation.
Alternate Topic: Assessment of ChatGPT
In order to assess the current strenghts and weaknesses of LLMs,
select, assess and present on in-depth experiments with ChatGPT or
like LLM.
- You may wish to select a topic about which you know a lot. This
could be a very narrow, unusual topic, such as underwater basket
weaveing, about which there is not a lot of training
data. Alternatively, you may also choose an area for which there is a
lot of training data, such as LinkedLists. Again, ensure that you have
a fair amount of expert knowledge.
- Conduct a fair number (>= 20) of experiments which build on what
you learned from prior experiments. In other words, do not simply pose
20 random prompts to ChatGPT, instead, pose a well-thought ought
prompt and based on the response, pose a well-thought out follow-up
prompt. See whether you can develop a good line on inquiry. I imaging
that you can keep this up for about 5-8 prompts. Then, start a new
line of inquiry. Conduct the experiments so that
they help you to assess the power and limitations of ChatGPT in your
chosen domain. Please ensure you state which version you are
using.
- Write-up your experiments and your subjective evaluation. Please
include some representative sample dialogs you had with ChatGPT. The
write-up should be concise and about 4 pages long, single-spaced.
Organizational Aspects
- Please work on the project in pairs.
- Please send me an email with your proposal. It should contain the
following pieces of information:
- Both of your names, if you were able to find a partner for this
project.
- A link to the project or paper you wish to present.
- A one paragraph write-up of the aspect of the project you wish to
focus on.
- I will review your proposal, make suggestions as appropriate and let
you know whether it has been approved as is or with modifications.
- If more than one group in the same course section proposes to
present on the same research project and if the project is such that
it does not make sense that there are two presentations on it, then
the first group to propose the project will receive permission to
present it.
- You have to give a 12 minute class presentation give or take a few
minutes, followed by 4 minutes of discussion.
- In addition, you have to write a concise and well-written summary
of the research project, complete with references. The summary should
be about three pages long, single-spaced, Times New Roman font, 12pt
font.
- The summary and slides are due at the beginning of class on the day of your
scheduled presentation.
- Please notice that the summary and the slides should go hand-in-hand.
Contents
- Your presentation should begin with a brief introduction, stating
the aim of the work and how it fits into the AI landscape.
- You should then summarize the main contributions of the work.
- Demonstrate existing software, if available and accessible. You
may wish to contact the principle investigator for this purpose.
- Please use diagrams and other visual aids available on the
web-site or papers to help the audience understand the work done. Also
give a good example or two of the work they have done.
- Finish the presentation with a short evaluation of the
contribution made; focus on its significance.
- Briefly describe how one could extend the work.
