Homework sets 'expire' at 5 PM, 2
days after they are due.
Set 1. Due Friday March 15,
2014
- 1.
Show that A x ( B x C) = B (A·C) – C (A·B) by writing out all
18 terms (6
terms for each of 3 components) on each side of the equation.
- 2.
Show that grad (fg) = g grad f + f grad g
. (Write out all the terms on
both sides.)
- 3. A
projectile is fired up a 12o incline with an initial speed
250 m/s
at an angle of 30o above the horizontal. Work
out how far it travels along the incline before landing, assuming no
air
resistance.
- 4. Use
the RK2 numerical integration scheme in Excel for a block sliding on a
smooth
spherical surface. The block is released from rest at an angle of 11.5o
to the vertical, and you are to find the angle at which it leaves the
surface
of the sphere.
