Suppressed carrier modulation techniques offer the promise of increased signal-to-noise ration and increased dynamic range in optical data links. The prospective goal for this team is to design and construct single-sideband suppressed carrier 1550 nm link. This task will be carried out by developing an effective technique for optical modulation; measuring bandwith, noise figure, and dynamic range; and determining the extent to which suppressing the carrier improves the performance over a conventional electro-optically modulated link.
