The prospective goal of this team is to design and construct photorefractive WDM modules. A photorefractive grating will be formed in SBN and LiNbO3 crystals. Both electrical fixing and thermal fixing techniques will be implemented. Diffraction efficiency and lifetime of the fixed grating is being studied. The arrangement for generating multiple gratings and diffraction efficiency will be modled using the standard band transport model. Ultimately, four gratings will be stored in each crystal and will be characterized. Multiple gratings will be used to develop polarization independent two-channel MUX and DEMUX for the 1320 nm and 1550 nm beamformers.
