VoicePlay Brings A Cappella with a Twist for Performing Arts Series Show
February 16, 2016
Talented Vocalists: VoicePlay, featured on NBC’s The Sing Off show, will perform two shows on the Hatfield Hall Theater stage on Saturday, February 20.
With ultra-tight harmonies and playful theatrics, the five members of VoicePlay have wowed audiences across the country since their appearance on NBC’s The Sing Off. This Saturday, February 20, they will bring their unique brand of a cappella to the Hatfield Hall Theater stage for two shows, at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
VoicePlay takes the timeless sound of vocal music and turns it completely on its head. Re-imagined as a full-stage show, VoicePlay’s music-without-music sound is peppered with harmonies that are amazing, humorous, and vertigo-inducing – going head-strong between eras and musical styles. The end result channels the breadth of the musical landscape while being laced with inventive and often hilarious on-stage theatrics.
Based in Orlando, Florida, the group first rose to national prominence with their appearances in the fourth season (2013) of NBC’s vocal competition series, The Sing Off. VoicePlay features the talents of co-founders Earl Elkins Jr., Geoff Castellucci, and Layne Stein, along with Eliezer “Eli” Jacobson and Tony Wakim in a show that’s more than the sum of its harmonious parts. Woven through the group’s vocal acrobatics are playful humor and features that enhance the audience’s entertainment experience.
“VoicePlay is more than just a vocal group, they are true entertainers,” says Hatfield Hall Manager Dan Tryon. “You know when they are Disney’s go-to a cappella group, they have to be good.”
Local a cappella up-and-comers Party of 5 will be VoicePlay’s opening act. The group features Indiana State University students Daniel Delgado and Christiana Wittenmyer, as well as Terre Haute South Vigo High School students Carson Thrift, Will Buchanan, and Amit Chakrabarti.
This comedy-infused, family-friendly show is being sponsored by Ellis Law.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for youths.
