Medical Technology Leader, Alumnus Michael Mussallem to Present Commencement Address on May 30

Life Sciences Leader: Michael Mussallem, a 1974 chemical engineering alumnus, has led California-based Edwards Lifesciences since 2000.
Michael A. Mussallem, chairman and chief executive officer of Edwards Lifesciences, will present the commencement address at his alma mater on May 30.
Under Mussallem’s leadership since 2000, California-based Edwards Lifesciences has become a global leader in the science of heart valves and hemodynamic monitoring. The company partners with clinicians to develop new technologies addressing structural heart disease and critical care monitoring.
Prior to joining Edwards Lifesciences, Mussallem had a variety of management roles at Baxter International Inc. from 1979 until 2000. During this tenure he had increasing responsibility in engineering, product development, and general management.
Mussallem serves on the boards and executive committees of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) and the Healthcare Leadership Council. He is an advisory board member for the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics at the University of Southern California, and former chairman of the board of directors for the California Healthcare Institute (CHI).
Mussallem earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman in 1974, and received an honorary doctorate degree from the institute in 1999.
Rose-Hulman will confer bachelor’s and master’s degrees to members of the Class of 2015 during the institute’s 137th commencement.
