Dr. Galen Duree specializes in photorefractive phenomena, nonlinear optics, and laser physics. He wrote Optics for Dummies as a way to promote the field of optical engineering by making it easy to understand. Dr. Duree has received the Dean’s Outstanding Teacher Award for helping students understand concepts of optics and physics. Director of the Ultrashort Pulse Laser Laboratory, a collaborative effort with the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana, he conducts research focused on providing students with practical experiences working with ultrashort pulse laser systems and applications.
