Internship Opportunities

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) offers a program called the Undergraduate Research Semester (URS). Approximately 40 students are placed each year in the URS program at LANL. Each semester is 16 weeks long and comprised of 80% research and 20% professional development activities. Scientists submit project proposals for research support, which they estimate can be completed in 16 weeks and will give students access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Students are placed on the basis of their applications and e-mail or telephone interviews. Student participants must prepare a technical presentation, poster session, and technical summary of their research. For more information, please visit the Web site at: http://set.lanl.gov/programs/urs. There you will find the details of the program as well as some past and current semester calendars, participant information, and research technical summaries. There is even an online application process. Applications are accepted year-around; however, students are now being recruited and placed for the fall 1999 program.

Internships and Jobs at NASA (Brad Bailey, PH 98 highly recommends NASA. He worked for them one summer, and also this past summer, while still in graduate school.) Exerpt from a December 5, 1999 email from Brad, giving some more details.
