Installing Spartan 16 on Rose-Hulman computers (this procedure works on Windows 7 and Windows 10; it has not been checked on other versions of Windows).

Procedure:

1.    Log in to the computer using an account with Administrator privileges. (If you log in using a standard account, the installation will be more complex, and may have issues.) It is recommended that you have your computer plugged in to the wall power during the installation.

2.    Open a web browser and go to the URL:  http://downloads.wavefun.com/WavefunctionDownloads.pdf

3.    Click on the Spartan 16 link for Windows. This should initiate a download of the Spartan installer. If the browser asks, select Save the installer file.

4.    Run Spartan16installer100.exe

5.    To install the software; you will need to accept the license agreement, and set a path for the software installation (I recommend accepting the default location). Click Install.

6.    Once the installation process is completed, you will need to select the Network Licensing Option.

7.    The installer will then run a second installer for the Sentinel Runtime; accept the license and follow the prompts to install the licensing software.

8.    The software will prompt for the license server address. Enter the server address that you obtain from your instructor and click Next. Click Done, and then click Finish. The software should be installed.

9.    To check the installation, double-click on the Spartan icon that should appear on the desktop, or select Spartan in the Start menu. Spartan should open. If Spartan asks for a license key, you may have a faulty installation, or have temporarily lost your network connection.

10.    Please Note: Rose-Hulman has 58 licenses; when you are finished running the software, please exit the software before disconnecting from the network so that others may use the software.

11. If your computer has a multi-core processor (e.g., any Core2Duo or i7 processor), each molecule being calculated will use (at most) one core. If you need to perform calculations on more than one molecule, you may save time by setting up calculations for at least one molecule per core, and running the calculations concurrently.

Troubleshooting: If you are having problems running Spartan, make sure that you are connected to the Rose-Hulman network. If you are connected, and you believe that you installed the software correctly, please contact Dr. Brandt.
